More than 1500 people turned out to celebrate the AVAAL Group’s inaugural Cliff Side Fun Run at Long Reef Headland on April 9.
According to organisers Mike Charter and Gareth Pike of the AVAAL Group, almost 900 people laced their runners to complete the 3k or the 10 km runs, with crowds gathering to take part in the event’s Sporting Festival, which included giveaways and games set up by the NRL, AFL, Union and Sydney Sixers.
Ambassadors Gus Worland, Steve Menzies, Katie Williams, Clinton Hill and Dr Katrina Warren helped kick off proceedings, alongside company founders Gareth Pike and Mike Charter.
The beauty of the course is unrivalled, as runners crested the southern side of the headland to be met with the most spectacular of ocean views. Rock band Stone Free greeted the 3k runners at the top at what must have been the best stage in the world, while ‘The Voice’ contestant Blake Morgan serenaded festival-goers as they crossed the line
Gareth says plans now are in place to expand the event next year to incorporate a children’s triathlon, a SUP race and a 5km course!
Naming rights to the event went to Bartercard, with numerous sponsors jumping on board to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Mona Vale SLSC and Gotcha 4 Life Foundation, supporting mental health.
The 2018 Cliff Side Fun Run will be held at Long Reef Headland on March 18, 2017.
